Sono ben sei i riconoscimenti ricevuti dal Washington Post decisi dalla giuria del Premio Pulitzer. Esce, invece, con le ossa rotte il New York Times che si deve accontentare del magro bottino di soli due premi. I giudici del Pulitzer hanno scelto il Washington Post per "la copertura eccezionale" riguardo la tragedia del campus universitario della Virginia dove morirono avvenuto precisamente un anno fa dove uno studente sud coreano uccise 32 tra studenti e insegnati e dopo si suicidò. Il Washington Post si è inoltre aggiudicato il premio per il servizio pubblico, le cronache nazionali, quelle estere e i commenti fornendo l'immagine di un quotidiano sempre presente sulla cronaca con una particolare attenzione agli approfondimenti.
Spicca in questa edizione il premio speciale per la sua attività poetica a Bob Dylan vero portavoce della storia musicale degli anni '60 e che ancora oggi incide con i suoi molteplici impegni ad incidere nel tessuto culturale della società internazionale.
